The term “native plants” generally refers to plants that existed in the region before settlement (European settlement in the case of North America). Life on this planet and in each region has been shaped over hundreds of millions of years. Insects, flowering plants, butterflies and birds have coexisted over tens of millions of years and have shaped the trajectory and relationships of many species. Elliot will share with us how to use native plants in our landscape to increase the biodiversity, save money on water and fertilizer, reduce time/money spent on maintenance, and increase the sequestering of carbon!
